Why is it difficult to explain what I do as a healer?

Mar 08, 2024

"So, what have you been to?"

"I actually started my own holistic healing business!"

"That sounds cool, what is that?"

"Well, I help women to heal their mind, body and spirit with ancient sciences like Ayurveda, Reiki and Yoga."

"Oh, so you are a yoga instructor?"

"Kinda... I use yoga to help women heal but I also I help them understand the root cause of their imbalance and healing with things like diet and lifestyle practices."

"Oh, so you are a nutritionist!"

"In a way... but a lot more involved spiritually like understanding where they are blocked mentally and energetically and guiding them to connect to a deeper part of themselves."

"oh...nice!" (leaves conversation more confused than in the beginning.)

Do you know how many of these round about conversations I have had in my lifetime trying to explain what on Earth it is that I do as an intuitive healer ๐Ÿ˜ฑ? I have done the complete opposite of an elevator pitch, trying to explain the myriad of modalities I practice. I am a 500 hr certified yogi ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿผ‍โ™€๏ธ, Reiki Master and Ayurvedic Practitioner. On top of that I have had years of experience working with limiting beliefs and learning how to remove energetic blockages. There is not exactly a job title and description for that ๐Ÿคจ.

I have invested in multiple marketing programs always trying to clarify what it is that I do and who I am and have always gotten an immediate ick ๐Ÿ˜ from the labels I was given. Coach always felt like a generic term that was only supposed to be used for my highschool poms team. It even became more tainted once I saw the crazy life coaching world on IG ๐Ÿคช. Any label like yogi, ayurvedic practitioner or reiki master felt right, but restricting as I am all of those labels. Intuitive healer felt good, but was always too nebulous. Gosh- if you've been following me since the beginning you would have seen my IG profile go through each of these names at least 3x each ๐Ÿ˜ฉ.

As a business marketing major and a five year business owner, I know the value of being clear to my future clients. When I let my ego go for having a sterotypical label ๐Ÿซฃ and just come out and say what I do, I always get in clients. So why is it so hard for healers to identify themselves and say what they do to others? Listen up ๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿป.

When you are a passionate healer, you love what you do and want to share your passion with others ๐Ÿฅฐ. You get overjoyed when you think about how simple and effective Ayurvedic practices are and how much they have changed your digestion and hormones. You are fascinated with the miraculous experiences you have had in reiki healings. You need to shout from the rooftop how life altering meditation and yoga is and how you can reprogram your thoughts and beliefs to manifest the life you want ๐Ÿ”ฎ. You are a complete nerd for the process.

But let me tell you, your clients may not be as obsessed as you ๐Ÿง. All your clients know at this point is that their body is screaming with pains like inflammation and hormonal imbalances and a magic pill isn't the way. The want full energy, a sound sleep ๐Ÿ’ค, stable weight and emotional freedom. They need to know that you are the person they can trust to get them where they are at and where they need to go ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป.

Do they care if your an intuitive healer, Ayurvedic Practitioner or holistic coach? Nope. ๐Ÿ˜‘

Do they want to know your unique process and how you have intentionally created every piece of your program to perfectly reflect ancient wisdom with your own twist? Nada. ๐Ÿคญ

I repeat. They want to know that you can help them get to A to B, and they need to trust you. So instead of wasting your beautiful energy explaining how passionate you are and finding a creative identity, show them the receipts โœŒ๐Ÿผ and build trust ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป.

The truth is that you are a multidimensional healer, but majority of your clients won't know what that is. So my best advice is to swallow your pride ๐Ÿ˜ต‍๐Ÿ’ซ and speak to what it is that you do in the most simple and obvious way. Check out my tips for building a simple and effective IG page here.

Once you have simplified who you are and who you help, it is time to bring in your future, dream clients! So how exactly can you build trust in an authentic way ๐Ÿค”? How can you market to your clients that doesn't give you or them the ick ๐Ÿ˜?
